Annette Edgar was born, brought up
and educated in the East End of Glasgow. After raising her family and doing a
wide variety of jobs, she went on to study Drawing and Painting at Glasgow
School of Art where her tutors included David Donaldson, Duncan Shanks, Barbara
Rae and Sandy Moffat.
On graduating BA(Hons) in 1980, she went on to teacher training and thereafter
worked in various teaching posts to ensure a regular income for her family.
Since 1990 she has been painting full time and has shown extensively in the UK
with paintings in many private, corporate, and public connections.
Her influences range from Post Impressionism to American Abstract Expressionism
as well as Bomberg, Auerbach, Hitchens and Hodgkins. Annette Edgar draws
continually and often works on several paintings concurrently so that one idea
is usually developed in different ways within a series. She has a strong
ongoing body of work which has resulted in her contributing to many group and
solo shows at home and abroad.
