Ancient Route, oil on linen, 34" x 38", Annette Edgar

Whether in her early exhibition at the former 369 Gallery, in mixed shows at such venues as the RGI and the RSA, or in this second solo show at Stenton, Annette Edgar's work arrests the eye and invites further exploration.

Her focus is a thoughtful tribute to man's passage through life, incorporating the "structures" which provide us with rest and shelter, and the "paths" we travel on the way. Some paintings will reflect a recent trip to Andalucia but, as with all of Annette's work, there is a wider sense of place that resonates within us all.

Her late mentor, W Gordon Smith, praised her lyrically expressive style and she has long been championed by art critic, Clare Henry. Private and institutional collectors follow her progress keenly, not least Rhona Brankin MSP, Deputy Minister for Culture and Sport, who has kindly agreed to open this show.

Annette expresses herself best through paint: the resultant works are joyous, reflective and uniquely colourful "landscapes of the mind".
